The Brooklynite is a magazine of urban affairs and culture that made its debut in March 2005. Having produced two print issues in 2005 and one abbreviated special Summer 2006 online edition, it is now folding due to insufficient advertising revenues.
Covering life, culture, and politics in the borough, the magazine provided a lively, independent venue for top-notch journalism on the issues facing Brooklynites of all stripes—from Williamsburg to Coney Island, and East New York to Prospect Heights.
In its brief existence, The Brooklynite amassed a roster of contributors that included reporters for New York’s leading daily newspapers, several accomplished scholars, and a noted former congresswoman. (It is also the only Brooklyn magazine to have published articles by a Pulitzer Prize-winner and a Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee champion—and in the same issue, no less.)
The Brooklynite was founded and edited by Daniel Treiman, who is now in search of more gainful employment.
The Brooklynite is a publication of The Brooklynite LLC.
